Weekends

I love my weekends.

It has evolved over the years...

When I was in my childhood, weekend meant the end of school week and usually we'll spend the night at my po po's (grandma) place where we'll spend our time eating junk food, watch loads of tv, read comics (usually doraemon), play with my paper dolls and go crazy at the playground downstairs. Po Po would fry chicken wings and french fries for breakfast and buy us loads of candy :)

On Sundays we usually would go to the beach. Mom would prepare the picnic basket, we'll bring all the buckets (for sand castle) and inflatable stuff and we'll spend the whole day at the beach, usually Changi.

My teenage weekends were a refuge from school work. Friends would 'hang' around the shopping area, eventhough we dont' have any money to spend. Haha... Movies and people-watching were our favourite past time. I miss the carefree days hanging with my girlfriends. ;)

Adult weekends was great too! We may meet up with friends less, but each meeting was more treasured. We shared our family life, love life and career life. Not forgetting the yummy gossips on other classmates or schoolmates! Ahem, I meant, updates, not gossips.

Ah, how can we forget the sweet weekends spent with our darlings? Of course we start with "my boyfriend", then later on we graduated to "my hubby" :") The holding hands, doing things you enjoy together, doing stuff that you don't usually do with your friend. Like, going for a stroll at the Botanical Gardens on a hot sunny day. -_-'''

Even if you didn't have anything to do, being in each other's company is enjoyable. :D

Nowadays, our weekends have evolved once again. Gone were the days where we'll fill each day to the brim with activities such as visit to the Zoo, Bird Park, Sentosa, any other local tourist attraction you can find and end off the day with a evening view of the city at Mount Faber. After a hectic work week, we now find solace and comfort in nesting at home.

We just love to wake up early on weekend mornings, go out for a nice breakfast, shop for groceries and hang out at home. In the evening, we'll make home cook meals together and continue to hang out in front of the tv until the end of the weekend comes.

Very boring right... But we enjoyed it so much! During our trip to Hong Kong, the schedule was so hectic! We missed rotting at home... Hahaha!

Sigh... does that mean that I'm aging?

Seems likely.

I used to be pretty fearful of growing old. I can't imagine myself being like, 60 or 70 years old. But in a blink of an eye, I've unknowing reached my late twenties. What happened to my early twenties? Where did they go? It does feel pretty strange how time flies. Did you notice how much your parents have aged?

I still have a morbid fear of death, but not my death, but fear of death of people I love. Do you know I use to have nightmares of that? But I guess in life, two things will always be inevitable, and that's death and taxes. When it does happen, what else can we do but accept it?

Until then, I will continue to love the people around me as much as I can, and not forgetting to enjoy every weekend I have with them...

Movie Maniac!

Whoo Hoo!
2007 is definitely a movie goer's dream come true. So many movies to catch in the following months! Busy busy!!

Disturbia
Thriller about having to live next door to a serial killer? Ooo... sounds interesting. But damn it, can't find it in the movie anymore! Finished so soon? Must be while I'm overseas. :(

Pirates of the Caribbean - At World's End
Anybody who don't know about this show must have been living under a rock. I mean, do I even have to elaborate why this show is a must watch?? duh... Sigh... I still havn't gotten over the shock that I suffered when they abruptly ended the show in part 2, Dead Man's Chest.

Oh by the way, I'm watching it for FREE... Whahaha.... Don't you just hate me? My company's social committee has arranged for a screening for staff and we get to bring our family or friend along. (of course, only staff gets to watch for free...) Looking forward to 26 May 2007! Johnny Depp!!! Orlando Bloom!!!

Shrek 3
Yeah I like Shrek! Some people hated the show, they don't understand why would anybody like a animation with such hideous cast. I just like the characters (the gingerbread man and donkey) and their jokes. most are adult jokes really so I guess it's more of a movie for grown ups. Haha... funny... Looking forward to some laughs! (Some's a fan of Shrek. go figure.)

Spiderman 3
Im a sucker for series... I liked the spiderman cartoon, so I've been following the series since the very first episode. I didnt really approve that they made MJ find out the identity of Peter Parker so soon, but hey, Im not the director. -_-

Bro saw the show and he said it's stupid. :( Really? Gosh I hope it doesn't suck. Im catching it later today, I'll let you know later.

Die Hard 4
Did you know that I'm a great fan of Bruce Willis? So you can imagine my face when I saw the trailer of Die Hard 4 on the big screen. YES!!! I'm a Die Hard fan of Die Hard! Whahaha... sounds funny when I put it this way. Im currently looking for the DVD for Die Hard with a Vengeance (part 3). Strangely I can only find part one and two in the shops... why... Anyway, looking forward to Die Hard 4!!! YEAH!!!!!

Ocean's 13
Oh.My.God. Ocean's 13!!!! George Clooney! Brad Pitt! Matt Damon! Andy Garcia! Al Pacino! OCEAN'S 13!!!!! NEED I SAY MORE???!!!

Zodiac
As you can guess by now, I love thrillers and suspense. So this show naturally caught my attention. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, its about a serial killler that taunts police with his ciphers and letters. Im confident that I'll like this show because it's by David Fincher, director of "Seven" and "Fight Club" both of which in my opinion are fantastic shows. :D

Transformers
Cool...! That's my reaction when I saw the trailer for Transformers. I remember catching every episode religiously with my brother when we were younger. We also got most of their toys which, if we have kept till today, would have made us rich. Sad to say, we, like most children, usually end up destroying most of our possesions.

Oh, the movie, yes. The trailer gave us a hint of how different the movie would be from the Transformers cartoon we watched in the eighties. It's super cool and modern! (even though some scenes remindered me of the Terminator) Check out their trailers. Its so cool....

Of course there are more great movies coming out everyweek, it's just that these are some that I feel should not be missed! Ok I gotta go prepare now. Meeting dear to catch Spidey. Ciao!

Happy Things

Wanna share a few items that I bought during my trip to Hong Kong and Taipei.

Adorable Totoro side sling coin pouch

Soft and cuddly Totoro handphone holder

Super cute Totoro tissue box cover

Funny and cute action toy kitty that waves its arms and legs when you pull the string

And the ultimate crowd pleaser… the super sweet, super pink Hello Kitty calculator!

Apart from the tissue box cover, which I kept for my own home, I’ve placed all the above items in my office. As you would have guessed, they have been attracting a lot of “Oooos…” and “Ahhh…” and “Oh My God So Cuuuuuuute….!” from the ladies in the office. One friend even confides in me that she’s so tempted to take away my cutey calculator for her own use. -_-“

I jokingly told her that if the calculator goes missing she would be my main suspect!

That same lady wondered why I filled my table with so many cute stuff!?

Was I deprived of cute things as a child she asked? Hahaha…. No… I had a wonderful childhood filled with lots of toys and sweets. Most things that I want, I was fortunate to have.

These things, which some would call junk, are what I call ‘Happy Things’. Lots of people buy happy things. Like what the name suggest, these things make you happy, makes you smile. I’m sure when you saw the above pictures of my Happy Things, a little smile surfaced on your face?

The power of these Happy Things is that, not only does it make me smile just by looking at them; it made the people around me happy too! Yes, they may be smiling at the absurdity of it all but they are smiling nonetheless.

We are faced with so many worries and frustrations everyday, so why not make ourselves happier with a little something? Yes, yes… the bimbo factor may be there, but sometimes it’s worth it. If something so small and cheap can make you smile just by looking at it, own it and be happy! Cheaper then Prozac… Hahaha…

My Nails (Part II)

It's good to be home! Havn't settled the photos yet, so I'll make sure to update when they're ready

As I've mentioned earlier, my bling bling nails has been a real hassel during my trip to Hong Kong. They were getting long and ugly and the crystals were dropping out! I've never had such long nails before, I always keep them short and neat. So for the past 3 weeks I've been reduced to a bimbo.

Why? With such long nails, I can't cook, I can't clean, I can't type, I'm basically handicapped because any activities would mean risking breaking my nails. Of course the ultimate Bimbo factor; the constant gazing at my nails, admiring the crystals and it's shine. Awww.... (^-^)

I was looking forward to parting with my Bimbo side and getting rid of the nails really. They were getting really ugly and not forgetting uncomfortable, having experienced a few accidents with my pathetic attempt to help out with the luggage.

Went to Some's place again on Friday to get rid of the acrylic nails. After a delicious dinner cooked by Some's mama, we got to work. Man! They were difficult to remove. Two of my nails were abit hurt from the minor accidents with the luggage. :(

We decided to go for a more sweet and simple design, so we opt for a french manicure with hand painted flowers and some recycled crystals. They look so sweeeeet! As usual, we were so excited with the final result that we started snapping away with our camera phones! Haha...

Some taking photo of my feet...

Poor dear dear waited for me until 12.50am to fetch me. It should have been a quick job as we were only doing normal painting, but we didn't expect the acrylic to be so difficult to remove! In the end dear waited an extra 2 hours for me. Sorry my love! (^_^)

I really like this second design, yes it may be more simple, but it's not plain and it still has the bling effect. Nice!

Home Sweet Home

Meow....

I opened my weary eyes to find out that I've slept with my glasses still on my face and the tv and lights in my room is still on. It's not that it didn't happen before, just that I never had them on all the way till dawn.

I took off my glasses, went outside the room and yelled at my cat to shut up. Came back into the room, switched off the lights, my handphone charger and popped back to bed. Oops, forgot about my tv. Heck it. Without moving away from my cosy bed and warm blanket, I used my toe to lower the volume and continued round two of my beauty sleep.

I vaguely remembered waking up again at 9.30am to some DIY tv show before drifting off again. Next thing I knew, it's 11am.

Man that was a great sleep.

The house was quiet as my parents were not back yet from the Hong Kong trip. I slept around 2pm last night after coming back from Some's place. Yah I got my nails done. They look gorgeous!! :) The trip to Hong Kong with my sparkling nails (see my last blog entry) has been a real nightmare and I'm glad that I got rid of it. Apart from the discomfort, they were getting really fugly.

Thank you again Some for her services. :)

Anyway, mom's coming back in the afternoon so I quickly (and very carefully) settled all the laundry. Cooked some instant noodles and coffee for brunch before settling down for a blog.

I exhaled a deep sigh when I was doing the laundry just now. It's so peaceful and quiet, I felt so relaxed. The trip has been fun, but it was filled with late nights, early mornings, noise, pollution of big cities and schedules packed at every minute.

It's nice now. I savour my solitude, blogging on a saturday afternoon, the soft jazz music played on while the fan hums in the background. I savour it because I know that it would be short lived. Soon I'll be going out to pick up my parents at the airport. The house would be filled with people moving around, chatting, laughing.

Looking forward to that too! :)
