Isabelle's First Month

Isabelle celebrated her first month on the 23 October in Australia. Her mom, my very good friend, Ting, ordered her full month cake online from Bengawang Solo and we got it over the weekend.

Pretty pink boxes!

The booties are super cute... its made of cream!

It's also got the usual red eggs and ang ku kuay

I like the card too...

I had it for breakfast this morning. It's actually chocolate cake inside and it's delicious!

Thank you Ting for the lovely cake! Happy First Month Isabelle~ ! May you grow up to be happy, healthy and beautiful!

Drving Lessons - Revived

I finally signed up for my drving test on the 25 Oct. I've actually passed both theory test, but my final theory has expired awhile back, so I have to take it again. The lady at the driving centre said that if I join their classes, I can take the test sooner. So on Saturday, I went for my 1st basic theory lessons, hoping to refresh my memory of the things I've learned more then 2 years ago.

I'm ready to learn~!

.

.

.

.

Oh crap.... kanna conned...!

They hardly teach you anything in the class! All they do is drone on and on on the safety rules, drive carefully, what are the main causes of accidents, if you drink, you shouldn't drive, driver's attitude very important, don't beat the red lights, blah blah blah... Zzzzz...... After awhile my mind started wandering... and my pen started doodling...

SATURDAY: things to take note of for driving lessons.... blah blah blah..... hmm what logo should I use for my online biz..?

SUNDAY: (drifting further...) Hmm I should consider some issues if I want to start my own biz...

SUNDAY: (drifting super far...) the 1st logo is cute, but how about a princess look? hmm.. if I want to paint my wall, what designs would look nice...

The instructors are ok, but I think the traffic police made them stand in front of the class and try to brianwash the drivers-to-be... Not that it's a bad thing, it just Soooo booooring.... Sunday's part 2 of the basic theory's the same too. Now I'm just hoping that tonight's final theory 1.01 would be different. Sigh...

l think I should start reading up on my final theory book and get ready for the test. My aim is to pass on 1st try so that I can start my practical lessons. I admit I'm a little nervous on the practical lessons, but I'm looking forward to it at the same time. I should start my practical driving lessons in November. Hope everything goes smoothly....

Farewell Connie...

Connie passed away peacefully today at around 1pm.

there's no need to say how she died, it doesn't matter anymore.

there's no way to describe the pain, only tears.

there's nothing in the world that can replace her. She's my friend, my family, my love, my everything.

please say a prayer for her. please let her be at a happy place filled with catnip, green grass for her to chew, toys and insects for her to play with, sofas for her to scratch and most of all, let her be in a place where there will be all the love and attention she needed.

Oh connie, I'm so sad that you are no longer in my life. But I'm also glad that you no longer have to suffer from your sickness. I loved you with all my heart, and I'll never ever stop loving you. Thank you for being in my life. I'm sorry I wasn't there when you left. Please don't think that I had ever forget about you for stop loving you. You have and will always be in my mind.

I love you. Goodbye...

Farewell UJ! Final Episode ~

After so many farewells the inevitable Tuesday came. We greeted each other good morning as usual and went on our daily work routine. But its not a routine Tuesday as it is the day of our company anniversary dinner as well. So everybody was a little too busy running around like headless chickens...

Fortunately the pantry gang seems to be the only bunch of people who are free...
One is resigned,

one is perpeptually free,

and the other is the stand-here-and-do-nothing-except-to-wave-hi-and-bye person, aka - The Standby Usher.

We went for our last lunch at the Arts Canteen cuz UJ wanted to taste the Yong Tau Hu Laksa for the last time. It tasted great as usual, but the queue is long too, as usual... Came back abit late, so kanna scolded abit. Sad, but I'll live.

Last walk to the Arts Canteen with UJ

I reminded Phee Lip to say bye to UJ cuz he'll be leaving for the hotel soon, so he went over and bid him farewell. There was an unspoken saddness among the pantry gang the whole day. Every routine stuff we do, we were reminded that it's the last time we're doing it with UJ! Last trip to the pantry, last lunch together at the canteen... First is Char, now UJ.

Most of the committee members were gone by 2.45pm, so a sudden hush fell over the office when all the chickens have left. Peace and quiet at last. UJ walked into the Library where I was and suddenly said, "well, i guess it's good bye!" my heart dropped. So fast? Actually he can already leave since he has done his clearance, but I kept nagging him to stay till 5pm. We're suppose take the 4.45pm bus to the hotel, so by 4.30pm Some and I quicklytouch up our make up and rushed to catch the bus.

When we boarded the bus we saw UJ's purple car drove out from the carpark. That's UJ! Both of us exclaimed. Was he waiting for us to say goodbye? We watched him drive off and we quickly called his mobile. We said our goodbyes on the phone and later he messaged us, saying that the pantry farewell was good enough. It nearly brought us to tears.

I guess I wasn't so upset when char left cuz I know that I'll still see her weekly during our aerobics class. But I dunno when I'll see UJ again, besides, I don't really MSN like they do.

So this is it! The concluding episode to the UJ farewell series. Ended with the scene of UJ's purple car driving away into the sunset....

The End ~

Saturday 20 October 2007

Sigh what a relaxing weekend. Went for a haircut in the morning after breakfast and finally got my bob cut! Nowadays can’t even cut my hair without getting into an argument. :P The stupid hairdresser obviously doesn’t understand the meaning of short. I had to request 3 times!

“Cut shorter please” Cut. Cut. Cut.
“I want it shorter please” Cut. Cut. Cut.
“Err… actually can be shorter” Cut. Cut. Cut.

Haha now my head feels so light! Shiok…

Before...

After!

Cobby brought me to have North Indian cuisine for lunch after that. First time having north Indian cuisine. Yummy! Check it out here.

Burp...

After lunch, we went to watch “Day Watch” at Orchard Cineleisure. We didn’t really planned for this in the morning so we went to orchard in our Bermudas and flip-flop slippers. Don’t care lah, felt like a tourist actually. Haha… We had about 20 mins before the show starts so we hopped over to the open air Coffee Club for a cup of ice coffee. It’s so nice to just hang out with Cobby on a Saturday afternoon, sipping coffee and people-watch.

Day Watch is absolutely the coolest show!

Very under-rated! So sad that Golden village only aired it for a week then Cathay to continue showing it in one of it’s cinema only. It’s fantastic! But I think if you didn’t watch Night Watch you would be abit confused; it’s a sequel.

Cobby wanted to get some CIA book he read about in the newspapers, so we went over to Borders after the movie. As usual, we went free & easy and browsed around. I found the creative section and searched for books on DIY interior design. But can’t find anything I like. Cobby even better, he can’t remember the title of the CIA book he wanted, so we just browsed around and left empty handed.

We didn’t know what to have for dinner, so we decided to go for something light. We stopped by the supermarket, grabbed some groceries, snacks and went home to make dinner. Haha we just wanted to go for a haircut in the morning and we ended up reaching home only around 7 plus in the evening.

I made Coco’s Stone Soup and a fried cabbage as a side dish. Very simple, very good. EVERYBODY can do it. Veg out in front of the TV after dinner before turning in. Sigh… such a relaxing day!

Farewell UJ! Part II

Told you there would be non-stop celebrations... :D

This morning had to literally crawl out of bed cuz the whole body was aching from 2 days back-to-back aerobics lesson. Was thinking of excuses not to come to work today but remembered that we're having a celebration lunch today. So.... For you UJ. (or rather.. for the ice cream... Haha)

Lunch time finally came!!! Quickly went to staff lounge...

Subway lunch awaits!

Got ice cream for dessert some more.... yum...

Lunch Committee
Let's dig in!

The star of the show and the paparazzis

We gave a giant card to UJ to congratulate him on his successful "escape". So colourful!

We had such a memorable time that UJ unknowingly brought all the trash from lunch back to his desk. Hahaha...

Hmm maybe I should keep this as souvenior

Farewell UJ!

Its sad when your friends at work leave for greener pastures... But it also means day after day of happy celebrations!

After MANY MANY changes, we decided to go to Fish & Co lunch at IMM on the 17 Oct for UJ's farewell meal. Wah... I can't remember the last time I went to Fish & Co. 1-2 Years ago? Maybe.

Oei wheres our food..?

Anyway, we had a great time. The food took longer than expected to come, so we ended up abit late :P Hope people in office wouldn't be too angry... Hey it's not everyday that we have a farewell lunch for a friend right..?

My grilled salmon ~ tasty but oily

The food is yummy! Somehow the food seems tastier in my last memory but I always believe that good company superceeds mediocre food. Chey...Hahaha... Actually after lunch very full... (I was burping the whole afternoon) But I can never resist Andersen's Macadamia Ice Cream when I see it!! Yum...!

The guys watch me devour my ice cream...

Sigh... our pantry gang is shrinking. 5 - 4 - 3 - soon will be down to two. All the best UJ! We'll miss your cheesey jokes...!

*btw he's still here hor... he's only leaving at 23 Oct 07*

Eat. Drink. Penang.

Went Penang over the weekend with Cobby, sis and parents. Sis suggested staying nearing the town but Dad wanted to stay near the beach, so we stayed at the Corpthorne Orchid. Overall trip was quite fun. We didn’t do much or go to any special tourist attractions, but we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly anyway. We spend our time strolling along the white sandy beaches and picked up shells as well as do a little leisurely shopping at the limited shopping malls. We even got a little adventurous and took public transport by ourselves. Oh yah. Of course, there is the food.

Oh the food is heavenly… where do I begin…

You know what they say… When in Rome, do what the Romans do. So when in Penang, of course must EAT where the Penang locals eat! The best foods we’ve tasted were from the roadside coffee shops and hawker centers. When in doubt, just choose the store that the most locals order from.

So what are some of the more memorable meals..?

Lunch at a roadside coffee shop. There’s a store that serve some fantastic crispy roast pork, char siew and chicken rice. The kyaw teow soup is also super tasty with freshly made fishcakes.

At the hawker center at the night market, we ate the famous Penang Char Kueh Teow and it is heavenly!!! It’s not as sweet as those in Singapore and it is so good! We also had prawn soup noodle that such awesome soup that Cobby couldn’t stop praising it as he slurped away. Then there was the BBQ chicken wings. When it came, we didn’t expect much cause it looked like any other chicky wings in Singapore. But when we take a bite, our eyes went O_O So tasty… Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside! The BBQ stingray was quite nice, they use curry powder to marinate the fish instead of coating it with sambal ala Singapore style. Nice, but I prefer it our way…haha. What else… ah, the Hainanese Popiah. Guess what, it’s fried. And instead of using radish as the filling, they use cabbage. There’s also a strong taste of five spices (五香粉). Served hot and crispy, nice!

The hawker was super crowded and you have to wait forever. But we just chill and chat and drank our beer as we waited patiently for our food to come. The atmosphere, although crowded, is strangely relaxing. Maybe because the stall owners were all so nice and friendly and everybody else is in a holiday mood. So it was a really enjoyable night.

On the last night we went to the seafood restaurant called 东海 for dinner. Mom said that we patronized the restaurant when we went to Penang as a child, so we thought it would be nice to reminisce the past. (though strictly speaking I can’t remember anything really) We didn’t expect much quality wise, but we were pleasantly surprised!

THE FOOD WAS GREAT…

We gobbled down every single dish with relish! But it was quite an experience when it comes to eating this giant, alien-like prawn dish. It totally freaked out me and sis, but honestly speaking, its’ flesh is really, really good. It’s sweet and tender and taste like nothing I’ve ever tasted. So another happy culinary experience for us! Yeah!!!

There was a 2 hour delay on our flight back, but the airline gave us complimentary meal vouchers to this diner at the airport. It’s like the local Kenny Rogers style restaurant. And it’s another surprisingly good meal! The chicken is well marinated, grilled to perfection and Oh So Tender and tasty! Hahaha.. this blog entry got a lot of exclamation marks~! But its true. Friends ask me about my trip and the first thing that pops into my mind was – “the food was great!” Haha that’s me! But overall it was a fun trip. I feel so much better now. I should really go for more short trips. Good for the mind, body and soul. Where shall we go next?

Happy 100th Post!

Strangely there seems to be alot of unhappy things happening in my life all of a sudden. But I would like to set those aside and blog about happier things on my 100th post!

I'm going to Penang, Malaysia this coming Saturday! Yeeeaahh!

I'm so happy to be able to go on a holiday that I don't even mind that it's only to Malaysia! I have an appointment tonight with the contractor which I totally don't look forward to, but I will continue to use this Saturday's trip as a motivation to be HAPPY!

Here's my wishes to dear Miss CoCo...

Happy 100th Entry Miss CoCo!
Be happy always and try to look on the bright side of things!
Remember that there will always be a spark inside you that
no one can put out except yourself...

Angry sia....

The bloody rock just got heavier...

As if the blotched honeymoon plans were not painful enough, 老天爷 decided that we need even more drama in my boring life.

OK lah, not all are bad. My beautiful cupboard arrived on Saturday morning! When we ordered it, the salesperson say they'll deliver between 10am to 1pm. We bought the sofa from the same brand and we know that they would come early. Why? I stay in Sembawang. Their warehouse is in Woodlands. Its only a 15mins drive away. Just as predicted, we were out early having breakfast and the delivery guy called and said that they'll be there at around 9.30am. When we reached home, Cobby and I saw their truck parked downstairs. It's 9.00am. Haha...

We thought that they would be outside our house but apparently they went for breakfast instead. Haha.. So later they delivered the cupboard and it was as beautiful as I remembered. *Happy*

The men from the flooring company came around the same time too. Sadly, there seems to be some sort of leaking of water from the air con pipes and the water has seeped underneath our floorboard and caused it to pop-up and water squishes out when you step on it. -_-"

1. The pipes are hidden behind our built-in cabinet in our master bedroom. So to check the pipes throughly means possible tearing down of the whole cupboard.
2. The floor planks are damaged, so they would have to replace the damaged pieces.

Number 2 seems like the smaller problem right? WRONG LOR...!

The stupid contactor said that they don't sell this brand of flooring anymore. And he actually suggested that we change the flooring of half of the room with a different type of laminate and put a strip of divider where the 2 floors meet. O_O

I don't know.... er... isn't that....

UGLY????

So Cobby called the main contractor and say that we should meet to discuss the options. (and not forgetting the price hor) Cobby was saying that worse come to worse, we'll change the whole room's flooring. Half half is really ugly what! Right?! But that would mean that we'll have to move the bed too!

When they left I was SO frustrated! Why did they suggest that we buy the more expensive and better quality laminate flooring and cut of the supplies when we needed it most!? Why did the air-con guy did not do a good job when he's suppose to? Why did the stupid Rugby have to be at France? WHY WHY WHY!!!!!??????

Tears of frustration were trickling down my face as I furiously vacumned the floor. Cobby was almost fearful as he watched me silently. Then I told him to call the main contractor to go find me my flooring. I would feel better (only slightly) if you tell me that you have done everything in your power to find it and still can't find.

Sigh... after vacuming and the laundry I wash my face and dried my tears. Ok, I had my drama moment, enough. So what do you to recover from all this craziness?

Ice Cream

(low fat - I'm watching my weight)

+

M&M's chocolate

+

Kit Kat chocolate

+

Chocolate chips

+

A drizzle of honey

Hey I was sad ok? Definitely feel better after the ice cream. Haha... Sigh... Guess sometimes life like that right? Give you one punch in the stomach. You give yourself time to scream, cry, heal your wounds, then u get up and keep moving. Well. Some ice cream would be nice. :D

Dreams Interrupted

What a week I had last week. For 2 days, I was flying at the thought that I am finally going for my dream holiday to Paris! My mind started planning the things I wanted to see, the places I wanted to go. I was walking on air..! Then the guy at the travel agency cruelly yank me back to earth by informing us that the hotels in Paris and the nearby cities were either fully booked or has added additional booking fee of up to 100+ euros per night.

WHY???? Because of some stupid game where a bunch of men fight each other for a BALL is gonna be held in France this year... The Rugby World Cup.

I hate rugby.

A dream is a dream, but I'm not gonna spend abt S$9k+ on a tour!

How can I explain my disappointment...? After all the waiting, the planning, the frustration, finally I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and just like that, plans cancelled. It's like there's a huge rock hanging from a metal chain attached to my chest. Each time I tried to cheer up, I lift the bloody rock up with my hands until my arms ache and grow weak. I drop the stupid rock and I feel as if I've sunk another inch into the ground.

Dramatic right... but yeah, that's about how I feel.

I know, some friends, even Cobby suggested going elsewhere. That's a good idea, but... I don't feel like going anywhere else! Besides, Cobby have to fly off to work in early November, my family is going China for holidays (I have to baby-sit Connie) and Mom would be having her knee surgery soon after they come back. By then Europe would be freezing...
Went for dinner at CHIJMES with Cobby that evening. As if to mock my misery, the weather that evening was beautiful. So we sat outside and just chill as we drank our cold beer. Made me feel much better really..

Forget it. I will go next year. When there is NO world cup, the weather would be cool not cold, I would have plenty of leave and he would have time. Until then, I'll be dreaming of Paris...
